Day 2 - Exploring On Our Own

Clicking on any picture will enlarge it for a better view. Sunrise this morning was at about 7 am and the clouds made it even more interesting. Wayne & I set off today, exploring on our own and drove the southern portion of Oahu stopping at various overlooks and beaches.  I couldn't get enough of the beautiful turquoise waters and the gorgeous views from Sandy Beach, Halona Blowhole Lookout and Makapu'u Lookout. As we neared Waikiki, we stopped at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific also known as the Punchbowl Crater.  It's a beautiful, serene setting with many WWI and WWII veterans buried there.  The mosaic murals on the walls tell the story of the battles of WWII.   The famous WWII correspondent, Ernie Pyle, is interred here; not because of his news correspondent role but as a veteran of WWI.  Also buried here is  Challenger Astronaut, Ellison Onizuka as well as many "unknown" from WWI, II and Korea.   For all my quiltin...

Clicking on any picture will enlarge it for a better view Heavy rain this morning in Phoenix as we left for the airport.  There's a one hour flight delay.  Take off now 8 am.  Everyone has TSA pre check now making for a long line.  But it moved quickly.  Love not taking computer out of my bag and not taking my shoes off. My first views, from the airplane as we approached Oahu.   WOW! It's been a long day, it's 4:15 pm here in Oahu now, making it 7:15 pm in Phoenix.  We've been up since 3:30 am Arizona time, this morning.  I doubt I'll have any trouble sleeping this evening. The condo here at Bellow Air Force Station is very nice; here are a few pictures for you.  We have a two bedroom condo on the 1st floor with a patio looking out to the Pacific ocean.   The beach is just across the road and while I haven't put my feet in the water yet, I will as soon as I can.    The temperature is a humid 74 degrees with a delightf...

Anticipation! Time goes so fast, but when you're waiting to go on the trip of a lifetime, the clock seems to stand still

Hawaii - Oahu & Honolulu My trip to Hawaii is just around the corner; just a short 7 hour (approximately) flight away and I'm in the final count down - 10 days to be precise. My travel companion for this trip, Wayne Shaw, who is making this all possible enjoys traveling and has loads of experience as he and his wife, Lois, traveled abroad a great deal.   So, the suitcase is packed (almost).  I'm sure I've packed way too much, but also, I'm sure I haven't packed the right things.   However, this will be a good test for my packing skills.  This will be the first trip of many scheduled experiences to see the world in 2023 and 2024.  Our first travel spot will be a 10 day trip to Oahu to see some things I wasn't ever sure I would see.  Howard and I loved to travel, but he wasn't very interested in traveling outside the US....
