Day 14 - Monday, February 26, 2024 - Christchurch New Zealand and Mt. Cook

If it's Monday, it must be new Zealand.    We left the hotel at 8:30 am and had a nice tour of the city of Christchurch.  It's a small town and easy to walk around.  There was
a small market we roamed through and then we were off to the Bridge of Remembrance and an indoor market.

There are some beautiful murals painted on building walls.  This city was devastated by an earthquake in 2013.   It's just coming back nicely.

This one was mainly food, and since we had just eaten breakfast, I managed not to buy anything.

We walked to the University of Christchurch, now and arts center.  The buildings were recently reopened after the earthquake and the Great hall has a beautiful stained glass window.

The sign describes the characters in the window.

We boarded our bus again and were off into the country to have lunch and a sheep shearing demonstration and demonstration of the dogs that gather the dogs

Pavlova, new Zealand favorite dessert

I fed the lambs

Machine shearing  demonstration

Hand shearing with a scissors

We drove to Mt Cook which is the highest mountain in New Zealand.

Its height, is 12,218 feet.  It sits in the Southern Alps, the mountain range that runs the length of the South Island of New Zealand.  Mount Cook is ranked 10th in the world by topographic isolation.

Dinner was in the national park's fine dining restaurant. It was a three course fixed price menu.  Lots of presentation, not much food which was just fine.
