Day 36 - Thursday, July 18, 2024 - Another beautiful day in Bergen Norway

We had a beautiful day in Bergen Norway today.  We were in our own as we had no excursion planned.

I cleared up a few items with Guest Services, cancelling a few tours and revising some other, all changes I decided to make.

When that was finished, we left the ship at 10:30 am and took a taxi ride to the funicular.

It's a type of cable railway system with a railway track laid on a steep slope. The system has two counterbalanced cars or trains permanently attached to opposite ends of a cable, which is looped over a pulley at the upper end of the track.

The result is that the two carriages move synchronously; as one ascends, the other descends at an equal speed.

The line was pretty long but it only took about 15 minutes to but tickets (round trip - 180 Kronen or about $16 US) and get into one of the train cars.  Fir my Western PA friends, it's like the Incline in Pittsburgh.

The ride was nice and the views from the top were spectacular as we had warm weather and SUNSHINE!

I wandered around and found some goats up there as well as a Troll Forest.

The troll forest. After all, trolls turn to stone in daylight

These two, we thought, were butting heads, but in fact were attached by their neck bells.  Two tourists figured it out and separated them from each other.

This troll escaped the forest.

After the ride down, Wayne and I had lunch at a local restaurant and then walked back to the ship.  It was about 1.2 km and Wayne did pretty well with just a few stops and benches.

We had dinner with friends we made on board and went to their balcony for a look down the river at the boat traffic going by

I was able to reserve a spot for both of us on July 29, for a French cooking class with the Viking chef on board.  I am really looking forward to this treat.  And it's a sea day so I have something special to do that day!

Tomorrow, we'll take the included panorama bus tour. But we did this same tour 3 weeks ago when we were here.  Our plan is to get off at the first stop, leave the tour and wander around on our own.
