Day 15 - Friday April 28 - Chioggia Venice Italy

It was good to get a late start this morning.  We took the "included" tour of Scenic Chioggia By Foot which didn't start until 10 am. I was able to update yesterday's events on my blog given my late return and my mindset.

The ride over from the ship to the island is only about 10 minutes.  Our guide met us there and we had a very good one hour tour of the small island.  It's only 1/2 mile long and about 400 meters in width.  The island is a mecca for fishing.  Mainly they harvest mussels and clams.   The clams are all sizes but they have a very small clam called Lupini.  These are the ones in Wayn's lunch.

These pictures should be on the cover of something, I just don't know what

It's similar to Venice in that it's filled with canals and the streets are called Cali.  We were lucky to find the fish market open and I loved walking through and seeing the fresh fish for sale.

Mussels and clams for sale

Oysters for sale - raw and ready to eat           Squid, squid, anyone want squid?

When the guide left us we had a cappuccino.  I have to think about getting one of these machines.  OMG.  After our little stop, we walked through the rest of the town taking pictures and stopping when and where we wanted.   I like this.  It's the best of everything.   A guide to tell you a little about the area we are in and then being on your own with a shuttle (boat / taxi) running every hour to take you back to the ship.

Saint Andrea Church with the oldest clock in Europe that has a 24 hour clock face.

Lunch was at a restaurant called Antico Toro.  Wayne had the pasta and clams.   I had Fritto Misto.  YUM.  Lightly pan fried calamari, shrimp, squid and langostino (larger shrimp).  They serve it with a little square of polenta.   I even enjoyed that.

Gelato was next on the list as we walked back to the pier to take the tax/shuttle back to the ship.  Today is embarkation/debarkation on the ship.  Many sailed from Barcelona to Venice or Rome to Venice.  Some stay on until Athens while others (not as many) like ourselves stay on until Istanbul.

Only 6586 steps so far.   But with this ship, I'll be over 8,000 by day's end.
