Day 15 - Tuesday February 27, 2024 - A Day in Mt.Cook

Today is a quiet day.  I slept until 7 am and we had breakfast and did laundry.

We have free passes to see the museum, several movies that play all dayand the planetarium show at 7:30 pm

Day 11 - Thursday July 27 - Seefeld to Salzbueg

  The view from our breakfast area window this morning View from balcony window in the sunshine From the grounds behind the hotel O Our first stop today was in Tyrol portion of Austria at the outdoor living history museum, Tiroler Bauernhof.  We had a guided tour, with a lot of ups and downs and hill climbing.  We looked at relocated buildings, mountain huts dating from the 13th century.  These are primarily original and donated and relocated to this Tyrolean government owned museum. So, I take pictures of doors, does that make me a bad person? The stones on the roofs were to hold down the shingles, as the shingles were not nailed down. Lunch was about 15 minutes away in a little town, Rattenberg. A bowl of soup and a piece of cake were perfect.  Wayne's ice cream made him smile. Sunday March 29, & Monday March 30, 2026 France Here We Come

And, I'm off again. Last trip, hopefully, on this knee.   I'll return and a few weeks later have a left knee replacement.    This time, my good friend, Bettiann Parker will be with me as we travel first to Paris for a few days on our own.  Bettiann already has her bionic knee so I'll be the one looking for the bench this time around! We will be able to see some things that Viking cannot offer us including a tour of Notre Dame and a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower as well as a cooking class we scheduled to make French macaroons. Then we meet the Viking river cruise ship for a sail north on the Seine River as far as Rouen.  But, while we're in Paris, Viking will take us to the Louvre for a date with Mona.   We'll also get to the Palace at Versaille.  Once we sail north, one of the highlights will be a day excursion to Normandy Beach.  We'll return to Paris and be put on a fast train down to Lyon for another river sailing on the Rhone R...

Day 3 - Wednesday July 19 - Old City of Lucerne and Mt. Pilatus

  Our first day of touring!  We left the hotel at 9 am and headed 15 minutes down the road to the old town of Lucerne for a 2 hour walking tour.   Our first stop, we picked up a local guide who walked us to the Lion Monument.   It commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution, when revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris. If there's a bench, Wayne will find it. From there we went into the Old City for a guideed tour of some of the famous landmarks.  The most famous is the Chapel Bridge.  The timber bridge, together with the water tower are a landmark of Lucerne.  It burned to the ground in 1993 and was rebuilt in 8 months.  The bridge is 672 feet long and is covered with gorgeous flowers.  This year, the flowers are impatiens.   In past years, Wayne tells me, there were geraniums along the entire length of the bridge.
