14 - Wednesday, June 26, 2024 - Geiranger Norway

We found the 2nd day of summer today.  Clouds and morning fogginess cleared to a beauty afternoon, 73 degrees and some beautiful scenery.

The port of Geiranger, home to only 250 people has some amazing scenery and trip to the dock this morning through the fjord was beautiful. We were up and walking around the ship at 6 am watching the scenery on the way in.

In order to encourage tourism and the cruise industry, the town built a floating dock system in order to enable ships to dock without having to use a tender from the ship to the dock.

You can see the dock slowly being moved by this one man, in yellow to meet up with our ship.

Here's some pictures from the opposite end as we left the ship.

Our tour left early today which in some ways was a shame as the high overlooks were still shrouded in clouds when we arrived so the beauty of the fjord from up high was lost to us.

Not much to see but clouds s.

Our second stop was a little better as the cloud ls started.to breakup and we.cpuld see more than just our noses in front of our faces.

By our third stop at Lake  Djupvatnet, the skies had cleared and we were awarded some gorgeous views of the lake.   High enough above.the fjord there was snow and our guide filled.pur heads with stories of the trolls that are REAl, not fictional.

Our troll, and, of course, according to the locals, he is REAL as they turn to stone if they suspect they are seen.

Back in town, we walked around the shops looking for something we absolutely needed.

Amy found a waffle on a stick that was covered in chocolate.

I find it fascinating to look in foreign country supermarkets.  Here's a bottle of Heinz Ketchup for a mere 49,90 Norwegian Kronen (about $4.90). All you have to do is move the decimal point one number to the left.  Still expensive.

Lunch in the pool deck today with the roof open.  What a beautiful day.

We leave port at 6 pm and we'll be taking pictures as we leave the fjord as well.

Tomorrow, our last full day on the ship,we dock in Bergen Norway, Viking's home port.  We have a tour at 11 am which is a walking tour of the historic portion of Bergen.

I'm sitting on the veranda of my stateroom now as I write this and the RIB excursion just headed in.  Everything is so lush and green and perfectly inviting.
