Friday April 10, 2026 Beaujolais France

We took the morning tour to Beaujolais wine country.   With a short stop in the town of Beaujeu France for a stretch of the legs and a gift store and a church.   We were really on our own, either no lecture or talk, so Bettiann and I wandered into the church, Englise Saint Nicolas to look at the stained glass.

A quick stop in the local gift shop, and we were off to Beaujolis country to walk around the vineyard and taste some wine.

I’m getting as jaded as Wayne.  We tasted four wines and I don’t like any of them and for my wine drinkers, we tasted one white (Chardonnay) and three Cru Beaujolais which are supposedly much better.   In this case I cannot say Viva La France!   Please don’t say it’s an acquired taste.   I don’t smell floral bouquets or oak or pepper or whatever they tell me I’m supposed to smell.   I don’t understand when they say “serve this wi e with lamb and sweet potatoes.   Or serve it with grilled meat and French fries.   WHAT!  Really?  What are they tasting in this wi e that says eat lamb?

This afternoon, after a quick lunch back on board, we were off for a tour called A Taste of Lyon.  We had stops at a store for charcuterie.   Here in France, charcuterie is strictly meats; no cheese or anything else on the board.

The start of our taste of Lyon walking tour.  We walked across the bridge and watched our ship sail away.

Over the door is the sign in the next picture

This sign is on the door of the building in the picture above.  It’s a 5 star hotel for cats only!

Bicycles everywhere and in every shape

A charcuterie store.  Meats only.  Pates inside pastry, ham, sausages.  This store even had escargot.

Our second stop was at a fromagerie for wine and cheeses. We tasted three different cheeses including a cheese from the Alcace region and the region near the Swiss Alps.  The last was a goat cheese and the Chardonnay was pretty good; better than all the Beaujolais this morning.

Our third stop was at a chocolatier and we tasted four different chocolates.  One was better than the next.

Some of their Easter chocolates were still on sale.

And the last stop was at a patisserie.  We shared and took one back to the ship, it was a brioche aux pralines.  Pralines are different here.  It’s an almond in the center which is coated with the pink sugar.  It might remind you of Jordan almonds.  The brioche is not real sweet.

We had a short walk to our bus which took us on a 45 minute ride to our ship as our ship moved down the Rhone to a new docking port in Vienne France.    Another 10,000+ step day.

This old building houses the famous Michelin star Paul Bocusr chef’s school.
